| 5 | WINNER - Gail Yellen This jacket is made from some of my mothers favorite neutral-hued sweaters. Using a Counterpoints Jacket pattern, I designed a collage motif, felted the sweaters and arranged the pieces. All seams were butted with a 3-step zigzag stitch to eliminate bulk and stiffness. Because there are no seam allowances, a “wrap-around” technique was devised to insert side seam pockets and I used the same technique for the buttonhole. Even the buttons are recycled. They’re from a collection of vintage buttons purchased at a local historical society auction. The 2 lower ones are closed with serger-embellished elastic loops. The jacket is lined with Bemberg rayon and linen bias binding finishes the jacket edges. |
