| 221 | Kathy Porubyanski Five dollars at the second hand store bought me a Bill Blass black/brown/blue tweed suit coat. I loved the inside pockets, one being buttoned. I chose to cut off the sleeves and remove the length so the jacket would sit on the waist. I already had some nice black knit fabric that did not ravel and it worked with the black in the jacket. I made two new sleeves using the black knit fabric. The wrist hem on the sleeve was turned up to the right side and top stitched. Blue ribbon blanket stitch was used to decorate the outside of each sleeve for about seven inches. I added a straight flange to the bottom of the jacket repeating the blanket stitch at the bottom edge. I then placed one button on top of another and sewed them both to the jacket for the closing and added some ribbon to the buttons. The jacket is modern and comfortable while the inside pockets keep my cash, credit card or lipstick safe. |
