Myers_Martha1.JPG - Martha Myers I completed the Ikina Jacket without the side panels, using 5 old garments, 2 from aqua linen and 3 from blue linen. I pieced each one, using piping. This required creating new pattern pieces with 1/2" seam allowances, as well as creating the piping by cutting on the bias. The grain of the fabric was maintained throughout, so that the jacket would hang properly. I used contrasting piping (blue piping with aqua pieces; aqua piping with blue pieces) to add design to the garment. I added some bias tubes to some of the pieces, as can be seen in the final jacket. Using left-over fabric I was able to also make a purse with prairie points, flip-and-sew and other techniques.
