2009 National Sewing Month Contest Submissions

KirchnerVite_Susan1.jpg - Susan Kirchner Vite Using 140 capri sun juice bags and Vogue 840 I made a trench. All pattern pieces were used except for the pockets. This jacket was sewed entirely by machine, with the last seams, sleeve underarm and large snap closure sewn by hand. After washing and rinsing out enough juice bags, I connected them using a zig zag stitch on my industrial Pfaff. I sewed together enough bags to cut out each pattern piece separately, being careful to match my strips/bags on each seam. Some of the more difficult areas were sewing sleeves into the armseye since the bags have no "give"... but I persevered 1/4" at a time. The bags were collected from the neighborhood kids who would drop them off.
