| 124 | Abigail P. Glassenberg I sewed this soft sculpture owl from a vintage flour sack. Flour sack is a wonderful material for fabric sculpture because it is strong and tightly woven. This flour sack had the name of the flour company and the weight of flour the sack contained printed on it in red and blue lettering. To make the owl I first created an original pattern. Then I cut the flour sack, sewed it on my home sewing machine (a Bernette 330 I bought in 1988 when I was 13!) and stuffed it with 100% wool batt. To form feathers I tore the flour sack into long strips that I formed into loops. I sewed the loops down in rows. I embroidered her eyes to give her a wise and knowing look. |
