2009 National Sewing Month Contest Submissions

Contreras_Lupe1.JPG - Lupe Contreras The quilt was made with my granddaughter's 25 tee shirts from 1st through 5th grade at Windsor Park Elementary, Corpus Christi, TX. The "frames" around the tees and the border were made with pieces and scraps from my stash. I used cotton thread on top and invisible thread in the bobbin. I stitched in the ditch around the tee part and then did a running stitch around each frame with varigated thread (primary colors). I did a running stitch on the border and the binding using varigated jeans thread. The batting was Warm and White. The "fat" binding is black with tiny different-colored hearts. The backing is pink with cute owls. The school mascot is an owl.
